1 More Day... To Pay Attention to the Signs
Recently, my husband and I were at the airport excitedly awaiting a flight for a bucket list surprise for him to celebrate his 50th birthday. We checked our bags and headed to security. The closer we walked, the louder the sound became. The fire alarm was going off followed by an automated voice recording stating there was a fire in the airport and we needed to exit immediately.
I looked at my husband in fear for we would miss our flight, but we had to exit. That's what the man on the loud speaker was saying. Yet that's when we noticed no one was moving. In fact, they didn't even acknowledge the voice. I was shocked. No one looked concerned, not even the TSA workers.
Not wanting to miss our flight, we proceeded to the long line in security and carried on like everyone else. We completely ignored the sirens. We talked about our trip (as we screamed over the sirens), but never once did we make mention of them again.
I've thought about that often over the last few days. I think about all the warnings given to us in Scripture to protect us and to keep us from danger. Yet we ignore them very much like I did in that airport.
The Bible repeatedly tells us to flee certain things, habits, people, etc. -to get away from them- yet we stay and end up getting burned.
God doesn't give us those warnings to make us miserable, but to keep us from so much pain. Maybe it's time we all paid attention to the warning signals going off around us and flee!
