1 More Day...to Read it All
Recently I was interviewed about the devastation of the Houston floods. The high school where I serve as principal received a lot of water damage. A national radio station as well as a local station wanted to pick up the story. Each interview lasted about 45 minutes. We talked on and off camera. Some questions were scripted while others were a result of the conversation.
When the story aired, it was quite different than what I had thought. The producer was able to pick and choose what sound bytes he wanted to use in order to make the story fit. He had an angle. And he picked particular sentences and phrases from our 45 minutes together to paint the story HE wanted to tell in two minutes or less.
After watching the story air, I exclaimed, "Oh man- they didn't air the part about..." "They left out the part about..."
Out of all the great stuff I gave them (haha), the producers- on both occasions- only chose what they wanted to hear.
Isn't that what we do? We take the Scriptures - all of them - and we pick and choose just the sound bytes to fit our angle. We often take scripture out of context to make us feel better or prove our point. We obey the scriptures we like and ignore the others. We try to leave those scriptures out.
Yet the Bible is not for us to pick and choose so that we can write our story for our angle.
We must read and obey it all! Every word; every phrase is God-breathed and useful! Useful! We can't leave out a word.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness - 2 Timothy 3:16
